The final showing was amazing! Everything was ready to go and Mary and Pelon showed up. I believe we all worked great together as a team. I have learned to work well with the community on a professional level representing Cal State San Marcos. What I learned most from this class is about the world in a larger perspective. I'm now more aware of homelessness and the working poor around my local community. I have learned and witnessed a few struggles that these people must undergo on a daily basis. Mostly, I have become more thankful for what I have.

Blog 6, 7, and 8

I forgot to do some of my blogs so I am going to combine 3 of the last blogs together. Make it easier to make one long blog.
The thursaday before spring break we had our last shoot at Brother Bennos. We were there for 6 hours (a very long day) but accomplished everything we needed. We did run into some problems but overall we got what we needed. That tuesday during spring break, shaun and I met up at school and captured the last bit of footage we had. We we all returned from spring break, we went into full blown editing to get this piece done.
We all pitched in during the editing and making all the graphics, lower thirds, and making the video flow. We sat around and figured what parts of the interview we wanted in the video and what we wanted to hit on from what mary told us she wanted. Throughour the weeks we presented our working in prgress to class and took in their suggests as well as Kristines.
On April 26th, we went to Brother Bennos to show Mary our piece and she loved it. She did get a little teary eyed. Another volunteer was there to view it too. Mary said she loved the video but wanted us to do some changes on it. We had to take the little boy out because we didnt get a written yes only a verbal yes. We had to adhust pelons interview but other then that she loved it. She like the song we picked too.
I emailed Mary let her know that we made the changes and that everything was well and that we finished the video. On May 4th in class we made the cds and burned them and figured out what we were gunna say at the screening. She said that she is very excited to see the finish product and that she will be bringing Pelon.
Over all this was a great experience I got to take. I will always remember this class and this experience I had, especially when i first walked into brother bennos the first time back in Februry!! I couldnt have asked for a better group. We all worked very well together and brought a different eye and aspect to this project from day one. We all had different visionaries, which made this project work. We worked with a great organization and great person (mary). I would love to do something like this again and do something great for an organiztion that does something great everyday.

AFTER SHOWING THE FOOTAGE TO MARY, WE HAD TO CHANGE SOME OF IT AROUND DUE TO PRIVACY ISSUES.  BUT OTHER THAN THAT OUR POSTPRODUCTION IS COMING ALONG GREAT AND WE ARE ABOUT DONE WITH THE VIDEO.  WE JUST HAVE TO PUT SOME FINISHING TOUCHES ON MUSIC & AUDIO.  AFTER ALL IS DONE, WE ARE GOIN TO BURN IT ONTO A DVD AND MAKE A COVER FOR THE DVD CASE.  THIS EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN A GREAT ONE AND I LOVED WORKING WITH THE MEMBERS IN MY GROUP.

I think our group did really well working together.  We all stayed focused and we all felt comfortable putting forth our ideas and collaborations.  Working on this project has definitely increased my awareness of the reality of homelessness and poverty, particularly in our state.  It was really overwhelming to see firsthand the many faces of individuals who are denied some of the basic necessities of life, but can count on someone for help- Brother Benno's.  I definitely enjoyed being part of a production team that produced a video we are all happy with and will be of great benefit to Brother Benno's.

We met with Mary and showed her the video. She loved it! Although, we need to make a few edits. (Removing a child because we didn't get written permission to film, only verbal. Removing some footage of Pelon and adding a picture of Kay (Harolds wife). Everything is on track! Excited for the showing!

We have been busy editing our video and I think it is coming along very well. We decided the look of and where to place lower thirds for the interview clips and color corrected some more clips. In class this past Tuesday I did the voice over in the sound booth for our video for which initially we had Mary do, but the audio quality was not that great. I think the voice over I did works with the video and does not distract from the other audio present throughout. We are well underway to almost finishing our video and it is a good length as well, under 5 minutes or so.

Last Friday, our group met and we really got on our video project.  A lot of adjustments have been made and we are on our way to creating a good piece.  We have been juggling where different video clips should be placed and touching up on interviews and b-roll.  Overall, our post-production process is coming along very well.
